On 28 April 1864, Freeman Colby wrote a rushed note home to his family in New Hampshire:
He’s finally been kicked out of his hospital bed, & sent on to his regiment at the front!

Notice how in such a rushed letter, Colby does NOT describe any details of his surroundings! I pondered how to draw this scene… (Should I leave out all setting details?) The breakthrough came when I realized Colby actually DID give us
